What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of consciousness characterised by increased mental awareness, concentration and general relaxation. We experience the state of hypnosis regularly in our day to day lives: while reading a book, watching a movie, driving down the highway or listening to music.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is an effective, safe, gentle and drug-free form of therapy which can be used to treat a variety of psychological and physiological conditions. Hypnotherapy, when practiced by a professionally qualified hypnotherapist is an ideal way to bring about positive, lasting changes in behaviour, mindset, performance and health.

How does hypnotherapy work?

While we can make a conscious decision to change our behaviour, our thinking, our performance or our state of health, lasting change is effectively made at the subconscious level. In a relaxed, comfortable state of hypnosis, with the assistance of a qualified hypnotherapist you are able to access and communicate with the subconscious part of your mind to work through issues, and make the changes necessary to live a more satisfying and rewarding life.

What does it feel like to be hypnotised?

The state of hypnosis feels different for everyone, however, you can expect to feel comfortably relaxed, aware and totally in control of your mind and body at all times. The state of hypnosis can be described as feeling similar to that of meditation. Your hypnotherapist will work with you in a safe, cooperative interaction to assist you in achieving your desired outcomes. You cannot be made to do anything that you are not comfortable with or change anything you do not want to change.

Will I be in control of my mind?

Yes, absolutely. Contrary to what stage hypnotists would have us believe, while in hypnosis, you are in complete control of your mind and body at all times. Hypnosis is done with you not to you. You are an active participant throughout the entire process.

How will I feel after being hypnotised?

Again, what we feel after being hypnotised will be different for each of us. People often report feeling refreshed, alert, vitalised and relaxed for a long time following the experience of hypnosis.

Your hypnotherapist will make you feel welcome and will discuss the outcomes you wish to achieve from therapy. Some counselling techniques will be used so that you and your hypnotherapist can get clarity and insight on any relevant issues. With the assistance of your hypnotherapist you will be gently guided into hypnosis. A variety of hypnosis techniques may be used to assist you in achieving your desired outcomes.

Why is the initial consultation longer?

The initial consultation is longer to allow plenty of time for your hypnotherapist to get to know you and assess your individual requirements. This time will also allow your hypnotherapist to answer any questions you may have.

What happens if I need to cancel my consultation?

Please contact us at least 24 hours prior to your consultation if you need to cancel. This gives us ample time to fill your time slot.

Why do you need my health care professional’s contact details?

In order to provide you the best possible treatment, it may be necessary for your hypnotherapist to contact your healthcare professional to ensure that hypnotherapy can appropriately be used together with any other treatments you may be undertaking.

What if hypnotherapy is not the best course of therapy for me?

If it is decided that hypnotherapy with us is not the best course of therapy for you, your hypnotherapist will be more than happy to refer you to someone who is better suited to meet your needs.
